Rugby World Cup 2011. Australia v Italy.

Australia v Italy

Game started off with Italy keeping the Australians rather quiet. The strong Italian forwards were keeping the Australians away from the tryline, but both teams conceded some penalties and slow rugby, but some quite good playing sometimes by runs, big hits. The half time score was at 6-6, which was favouring the Italians, since the Australians should have done better.

However, the second half was different. After being kept quiet by the underdogs in the first half, the Italians broke down at their defences and the Australian tries were being tallied up. Very good tries, too. The second half made up for the monotonous first and Australia showed more of what they are made of. Italy almost scored a try towards the end, with a very good scrum on the Australian 5m line. The scrum drove forward and were actually over the try line, and so was the ball. However, and I don’t know how, Perisse kept the ball at his feet, and even the Italian scrum-half, a metre or two behind him just stood there. Not sure how he couldn’t see what was going on, or why he didn’t pick it up, but Australia managed to get the ball free and kick it down, which, after a lineout, resulted in a try for them. Italy basically threw that away... disappointed by them and they were disappointed.

I think both teams could do with some work. Italy need to be more confident in attacking and getting the ball, while Australia are capable of putting pressure on and the skill they have in their backs is great.

FINAL SCORE

32-6
